When: February 1, 2007 -- 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Where: First 5 LA Building (located directly next to Union Station)
750 N. Alameda Street, First Floor, Los Angeles, CA
This forum will serve to educate you and your staff about the growing world of children and family advocacy, the emerging dynamics of the debate, the national and electoral ramifications, and how to make your office a leader in this emerging movement.
The forum will be fast paced and cover a wide range of issues from the children's health insurance bills being debated in the state legislature; children's health, juvenile diabetes, and steps your office can take to be leaders on this issue; the universal preschool movement where it is today, and where it will be tomorrow; and a dynamic presentation by the Every Child Matters organization.
Speakers will include: LAUP's CEO Dr. Gary Mangiofico, Assemblymember Lloyd Levine, Speaker Fabian Nunez's office, representatives from the First 5 LA Commission, and others to be announced. The health insurance presentation will also be followed by a discussion and Q&A to give your staff an opportunity to get answers to constituent concerns and get a better understanding of this emerging statewide debate.
During the 2006 midterm elections, the issue of children and family advocacy turned the tide in several national campaigns; most of that success was based on the polling and research done by Michael Petit and the organization Every Child Matters, www.everychildmatters.org. Mr. Petit has compiled that information into the online book Homeland Insecurity and we are honored to host him on the 1st to find out how to take his findings and apply them to our local advocacy.
